Positive Affirmations:  The Secret to Stop Thinking Negatively

The biggest battle is in our mind. I have always heard that saying and as I became an adult that saying became true.  We live in a world where negativity surrounds us.   As humans, we can naturally think negatively, but it takes a lot of work to think positively.  There was a time in my life when I use to let negative thoughts and situations get to me.  Over the years I have learned that what you say out your mouth matters.  You can say positive things to yourself daily, and it will help you cope with negative thinking.  That effective coping skill is called positive affirmations.   Positive affirmations are positive statements that you say to yourself on a regular basis.  It may seem a little silly at first, but it really works.

For example, if you have low self-esteem you can say to yourself that I am confident.  You may have a hard time believing what you say at first, but it will sink into your subconscious mind. Once you get positive affirmations in your thought process, you will start to believe them.  Low self-esteem is something that I have dealt with since I was a teenager and saying positive affirmations has helped me.  It took awhile for me to believe that I can be confident, but eventually, I did.

No matter what the situation is, there is always a positive affirmation for everything. One easy way to create positive affirmations is to think about your positive attributes. Instead of dwelling on the things you can’t change, think about the things that you like about yourself and write them down. Focus on those things when negative thoughts come into your mind.  For every negative thought that you have, you should counteract it with a positive affirmation.  When you replace a negative thought with a positive affirmation, it can help you achieve your goals.

We experience negative thoughts at home, school, or even at work.  Carrying your positive affirmations in your purse or wallet can help you if you need a reminder while you are on the go.  Anytime I feel like things are getting overwhelming and I just want to crawl into a hole, I take out my affirmations, and I read them.  I have realized the more that I affirm something, the more my mind comprehends the positive results that I want.

I am not saying that positive affirmations will stop your negative thinking right away. It takes time to train your mind to think positive.  Repetition is the main factor in learning how to change your negative thought pattern with positive affirmations. When things come to your mind that you know should not be there, just say your positive affirmations out loud.  Make sure that you believe and receive what you say. You may feel like it is a waste of time at first, but if you stick to it, you will see a positive change in your life.
