Why is emotional content so attractive to human beings? We are emotional creatures, attempting to weigh and balance our emotional natures, against our logical ethos. Which reigns supreme, emotions over logic, or logic over emotions? We would like to assume that we are logical all of the time, but is that the truth?
Would the science of psychology even exist if we were beings that operate solely on logic? I don’t think so. Evidence seems to point to the fact that our emotional triggers may be stronger than following our logical selves. Look at the evidence in article writing. We can post an article that is based solely on facts and gather perhaps two views a week. We can post an article containing rich emotional content and get a response of 30 views a week. Evidence seems to point to the fact that facts, may be less important to us, than rich emotional content. We enjoy being entertained when we read, and facts can sometimes be perceived as boring, should they not be weighed and balanced by entertaining emotional content.
That is why a news station that entertains, as well as deploying the often disturbing facts surrounding the news, will do better in the ratings if people are also enjoying the content on their station based on emotional input. That is why we love the arts, cinema, theater, games and sports, we love to be entertained. When we get back to ourselves, we realize that we are indeed, emotional creatures; although we strive to insist that we are driven in our pursuit of the facts, logic, and the points, in our discussions and interactions with other people.
